Annie Heath | Heath in Progress is a choreographer and dancer based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has been presented at New York Live Arts, ISSUE Project Room, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Chen Dance Center, Access Theater, Center for Performance Research, Dixon Place, TADA! Youth Theater, Triskelion Arts, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, West End Theater, and Alchemical Laboratory. She has performed original works by RoseAnne Spradlin, Doug LeCours, Gabriella Carmichael, and Pavel Machuca-Zavarzin. Heath is currently a 2019-2021 Fresh Tracks resident artist at New York Live Arts.
As a dance-maker, Heath wonders about capacity—a cavity in her archived mind that needs filling. She fumbles with identity as a portal to generate fabricated memories and dreamlike, meditative atmospheres. Maybe roots can flourish in detachment.

Press
“made me hopeful for the future of dance in New York City, exemplifying the bold, urgent spirit of the art today... Careful, expert gestures of wrapping a sarong contrast with desperate, helpless ones such as lifting a heavy pile of folded clothes, trying to secure this bundle high against the back wall with nothing but one’s tired arms.”
Eva Yaa Asantewaa, InfiniteBody
Mention in “11 Dance Performances to See in N.Y.C. This Weekend” Brian Schaeffer, NYTimes
“Annie pushed the cloth in circles around the floor, cycling into herself in the neverending chore, as Sok spoke against soft music: all layers of the performance prompting nostalgia and heartache.” Jean Lee, Culturebot
“Heath shifts and morphs, from crawling to slowly rolling on the floor to vigorously undulating on all fours. The movement is frequently purposefully awkward, such as when she supports herself on the inside edge of her hand, her wrists splayed out like the pointed hooves of a sheep.” Glenna Yu, The Dance Enthusiast
“Her very earthbound, yet intense rendering benefitted from her repetitive and nuanced approach.” Walter Rutledge, Out & About NYC Magazine
